Ethnographic materials from PES Archive - Digital Culture 2017

The materials concern the fields of traditional folk culture: folk costume and its ornamentation, handicraft and crafts, folk food, annual rituals and folklore. Here are located:

  • selected issues of The Atlas of Polish Folk Costumes;
  • illustrative and manuscript archival of The Atlas of Polish Folk Costumes (materials prepared for publication which were not included in the published books);
  • scattered materials on folk costumes and traditional ornametations from PES Archive from the period 1900-1952;
  • scientific legacy of Jan Piotr Dekowski (1907-1988) - ethnographic materials from the period of 19th and 20th centuries, with particular emphasis on the years around 1930-1988. Selected documents include those concerning: regional folk costumes (including stencils, fabric samples, fragments of laces, embroidery from various areas of the Lodz province) and lexicon of peasant's food. The selected archival units also include materials on folklore and folk rituals, crafts and folk architecture. Interesting materials are also archives concerning the activities of the Folklore Enthusiasts' Clubs (i.e. Łódź, Kalisz, Opoczno).

Materials are digitized and published in digital copy thanks to the funding from Digital Culture - the program of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
