Democratic attitude of the Krajowcy in the former territory of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania was initiated by the revolutionary events in the years 1905-1906. The main object of political activities of the Krajowcy was the attempt to reach an agreement between the nationalities inhabiting the lands of the former Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Vilnius Democrats recognized the Lithuanians, Belarusians, Poles and Jews as legitimate nationalities of the “Country”. In the opinion of the Members of the native democratic group, the territory of the former Grand Duchy of Lithuania was characterised as something distinct, which could not be compared to the Kingdom of Poland or Russia. The first issue was presented by the unique quality of the lands of the former Grand Duchy of Lithuania with its specific ethnic structure, which created socio-cultural relations. The second one was connected with territorial and economic area. Accordingly, the lands of the former Grand Duchy of Lithuania were strictly connected with the homogenous economic policy. Another issue facilitated the creation of the so-called National Interests, i.e. the aspirations of the inhabitants of the former Grand Duchy of Lithuania to the protection of their rights in the cultural, social, political and economic scope. The national democratic attitude strongly emphasized the primacy of the community formed by the Poles, Lithuanians, Belarusians and Jews, the common past marked by cultural influences, mores, language and common economic interests over national particularism.
